Great Journey 🏍 Day 328
The attraction of old excavation sites for us is now very low. That's why we only spend the night near Nemrut, where once again "old stones" can be admired. We also read that the sunrise or sunset is supposed to be quite pomfortionous. Looking at it from a distance is enough for us.

But as it is with our plans, they never work out. In the caravanserai where we spend the night, we meet a Turkish family who invites us to watch the sunset together. Yes, we can go with them, we leave at 6.

All right, we are looking forward to talking to them and to the little excursion up the mountain, which houses shrines and tombs on the over 2150 m high summit. Quickly we also have a thermos of tea in hand (apparently it is important never to be out without tea), Tamer takes really good care of us!

Did I mention that it's bank holiday week? As many families as possible are on the road. Briefly, we get the feeling that all the families from near and far are going up Mount Nemrut today to watch the sun go down. Or, after 1.5 years of Covid emptiness, we are no longer used to seeing many people in one place.

Either way, we enjoy the time, the coolness, the conversations with Tamer and his wife Emire and are suddenly enchanted by a setting sun that knows what it can do! Brilliantly, it first shines in full splendour, only to blink coquettishly out from behind a perfectly draped cloud arrangement a little later. And then, just before it takes its way to the west, it frees itself from the clouds and makes a diva-like exit.

And so do we, along with hundreds of other enthusiasts. On our way down to the car park, we are approached by a Kurdish group and a group photo is quickly taken in the car park. And since the mobile phone is already outside, there is music and a little dance.

Elated, delighted and happy to have been persuaded, another day really worth seeing comes to an end.
