Greece - Hot Springs in Macedonia?

01 May 2021

Great Journey 🏍 Day 240
End of the road.
That's how it can work.

A hot spring and a magical waterfall are on my (our) wish list. Also, once again, a magical mountain range. We drive through Macedonia (Watch out! Macedonia - or Macedonia - is a region that stretches across Bulgaria, northern Greece, a bit of Albania and above all the country of northern Macedonia) and we are in love with it.

First it's dead straight through the countryside, then through the mountains, winding like crazy, the mountains are green all the way to the top. We briefly remember Laos, the rainforests without interruption, without villages and towns.

In between, we take a break (we again find a collection of 2 or 3 men as an indication) in the "Café zu den 4 Platanen".

On we go, higher and higher, further and further north. But before we reward ourselves with the waterfall, we now drive through endless fruit tree plantations. All in full bloom. And we are already in the middle of Japan's cherry blossom.

But now, finally, here again 2 curves, then the waterfall. The stop sign irritates us. The entire road ends here, no waterfall. No picnic at the hot spring. Our luck has run out for a short moment. Defiantly, we quickly book a room, wait outside the door and wait and wait. Until we realise that we are waiting in front of the wrong door.

So back on the bike. To the right hostel. Gerd jumps in, picks up the room key and we stretch out. Arrived.

We do not know at this time that we will get an email from Booking the next day saying that we are in the wrong guesthouse. This afternoon, our luck is not so good. Even when we want to go for a walk and a hailstorm is raining down on us.

So: we order pita twice and stay in the room. We won't try anything else today. We don't want to see the hot springs, the waterfall has to splash around without us. We only feel sorry for the actual landlords (in retrospect).
