014 - Sri Lanka - Lazy day at and in the water

Längerer Beitrag – schneller Überblick:

A pleasant day in and around the water

During the night, the air conditioning goes out. No electricity. I wake up shortly before 6 and grab my mobile phone, my mini keyboard, which I bought especially for the holidays, and go downstairs to write my diary. I am enjoying the time very much right now.

Maybe we'll go to the beach today, Moppi really wanted to learn how to surf. But he can only surf when his skin hurts less. He will decide that today when he gets up. Let's see how it looks.

Meanwhile, I drink my first pot of tea and listen to the jungle sounds.

At some point, the husband and children arrive and we have a leisurely breakfast. On our right is a Danish group. On our left is a German family. That's all we are in this hotel. It feels very familiar and cosy.

After breakfast, the children quickly scurry into the pool for a cool down. Immediately afterwards we set off. We hijack 2 tuktuks at the roadside and then head for the surf school on the next beach. Gerd and I have made ourselves comfortable on sunbeds in the shade under palm trees. Kathi and Moppi immediately get a long-sleeved shirt thrown on and their first dry surf lesson in the sand. They lie on the board, paddle through the sand and have to get up quickly. After two or three minutes, it works well and the theory session is over. is also already finished. There you go. And now into the water. It starts right in front of us. Walk in, get on the board, wait for the wave and paddle, paddle, paddle, get up and surf. It looks very easy. At the beginning it works wonderfully. After an hour, the strength wears off and it becomes more and more difficult. They pause a bit, but the will is stronger, so back up on the board. In the evening Kathi will feel her legs. Sore muscles for the second time in the holidays. Meanwhile, Gerd and I lie down and enjoy the beach, the sun, the breeze and the view.

A tuktuk, yes that's right, a tuktuk, takes all 4 of us back to the hotel. He seems to be a very busy tuktuk driver. First he takes us to a herb garden, where we buy aloe vera and ointment for the children's burnt skin. The ointment is not so great, but the two fresh aloe leaves are divine. Put them on the nose, forehead and shoulders and you'll feel a pleasant cooling sensation.

Of course, we have to rush to the pool again. The pool is really great. Romantic, clean and, above all, always somehow in the shade, which both kids welcome very much. After all, they were in the sea again today for two hours in the blazing sun.

At 4 o'clock the busy tuktuk driver picks us up again, the four of us crawl into the small vehicle. Kathi always across us on our laps and off we go to Galle. Galle is a charming little colonial town with well-preserved houses. Later I read that the town is a World Heritage Site. Therefore, the city must be preserved. But how and who is supposed to do it seems unclear to me. Neither do the Sri Lankans.

But before we can go to Galle, the tuktuk driver takes us to his uncle, who runs a herb shop. Here the locals buy at local prices. We end up buying two bags full of spices, curries, cinnamon sticks and scented sticks. I could buy so much more, but somehow I am satisfied with what I have. After all, it all has to be carried home.

I mention that our son is a bit hungry and ask the driver if he knows of a food stall. Of course, we quickly stop there and buy a whole bag of roti for a ridiculous price, we would never have gone there ourselves... but they are delicious, very delicious even.

Finally we arrive in Galle Fort. The city is surrounded by a rampart, on which we stroll, of course. Romantic in the sunset. However, we are not the only ones, but that doesn't bother us at all. We stroll, Moppi buys a surfer necklace, we take photos and at some point we are driven to a Healthy-Healthy-Restaurant. We eat really healthy for the first time and are happy. Afterwards, we finish off our healthy evening with two scoops of the best cream ice cream and walk the streets again. We stroll around, look in the shops, listen to the sound of the sea and finally call our tuktuk driver. He picks us up and we rattle home. This time we redeem the tuktuk driver before he has to comb up the mountain with us 4 adults and get out beforehand. Kathi and Moppi find this idea cruel. By now their legs hurt noticeably from surfing.

At the villa we sit on our terrace for a while. A slight coolness surrounds us, we can no longer see the sea, but we can still hear it. Far in the distance, a party seems to be going on, European party music can be heard.

I won't stay awake long today either, after all, I've done a lot, been up early, been awake all the time, been in the sea twice and in the pool three times. So it's time to rest and sleep. Before that, I pack my backpack - we want to leave early tomorrow morning for our next and unfortunately last stop. We will stay there for another three nights and then go to the airport.
