Sweden & Norway - Internet

Info mail: Internet in Sweden and Norway. Our detailed info, but beware, this is our experience!

1. we have 2 x 40 GB roaming per month on our subscriptions (but not enough, as we need between 100 and 300 GB per month) Even if some people now say they have unlimited roaming. That's not true, in all normal contracts in Switzerland (and as far as we know, also in Germany), roaming is cut off from 40 GB and not even a Whatsapp picture comes through). Read the terms and conditions to the end!

2. we have an old Huawei wi-fi box where we put local sim cards with data packets. (In the meantime, there are certainly newer boxes, but as long as it still does it, it stays!)

3. internet in Sweden:
We bought a sim card from ComViq at Pressbyrån (kiosks at every train station etc.) and then topped up the data volume via the Comviq website (note that you get a phone number for the card when you buy it, which you need to top it up). The data volume is always valid for 30 days. We could always see on our box how much we had left. The reception from Tele2 (the ComViq network uses Tele2) was good to very good for us everywhere.

4. internet in Norway:
That is much more complicated, because in Norway you only get a sim card with a Norwegian personal number. We don't have one. Besides, we are permanent travellers, so we can't have one sent anywhere.
Our way: In Sweden, we bought a Telenor sim card at the petrol station (CircleK). We inserted it into our box.
App "recharge" downloaded (or go to the website recharge.com) App and mails later in German!
Create an account here incl. email address, credit card etc.
Deposit sim card number, incl. Swedish dialling code
Select provider (in our case Telenor)
Select subscription, we have the one with 100GB data (Telenor FastPris 100GB)
In the app, you could pay by credit card (plus CHF 4, about 4 euros).
After that we received an email from recharge
There you will find a code for activation including detailed instructions. The activation of the credit can take up to 15 minutes.

Important: we also had a Halebop card from Sweden with us, but if you want to go online in Norway, Halebop wants a Swedish personal number to register.

Besides, some Swedish card providers only accept Swedish credit cards. We don't, so that's why we took the diversions via this recharge app.

That was our path. I'm sure there are many other ways, but in the end it was the right one for us.
We hope it helps you a little.

Hello Heike & Gerd,

Thank you for your advice how to get internet in Norway for travellers. We are going to travel there and so your advice is very valuable for us. Only I would have another question: is it allowed to spend all the 100 GB in Norway or just a part of it? I speak about some limitations in EU countries when using roaming.
Thank you! Danka

HI Danka! in our Telenor-Simvard we can use all of the 100 GB. At Helbop only 20 GB 😉
Kind regards - Heike
