Great Journey 🏍 Day 360
All roads lead to Rome. Nonsense: all roads lead via Tbilisi, we are just discovering. No matter where we want to go, we always have to pass Tbilisi. We really like it here. We usually only notice it when our plan to spend just one night here quickly turns into a week.
This time we stroll through the old town, the real old old town. At night we sit on our balcony, watch the lights of the city shine. Watch the full moon rise 10 to 20 times (until we realise it's the beautifully lit hot air balloon) and watch the cats scamper across the rooftops.
During the day, we stroll through the streets, marvel at small car workshops, wonder if they could do the software update for Malou and just manage to get past the many Georgian restaurants, only to sit somewhere a little later and eat khinkali.
Gerd has lived out his penchant for weddings to the full. In the evening, as I sort through the pictures, I find several bridal couples on my computer. Here a bridal bouquet, there a few glitter couples.
Here, the programme is in full swing. Anything that can be used to decorate people is used: Blingbling on shoes, veils and hair. Make-up to the point of immobility on the bride's face and never on the road without a make-up artist, photographer and hair stylist. Gorgeous dresses, elegant men. Everything for the photo. Because neither man nor woman really look as if they are in any way comfortable with it all.
We sit, drinking compote, just watching from our shady seats, in comfortable clothes and shoes suitable for exploring the city.
What compote is? Carafes full of homemade juice including the fruits that go with it. Our favourite is blackberry, lots of it, cool, delicious. The only thing: we always dilute it with water, otherwise it's too sweet for us.
Life is good to us. Tbilisi, we like you.
