What is different this time?
Thursday evening. 4 p.m. and my love calls and shouts into the phone, beaming with joy: Holidays!!! He must have left a little early and now the next 3.5 weeks are ours.
We are going on a pre-trip around the world by motorbike through Spain. And for the first time since I've been travelling, we haven't planned anything. Okay, it's not quite true, we know where we're going and we've already booked the ferry. But nothing more.
Wow, this is going to be a joy! I'm really looking forward to it.
At the beginning of our holidays we went to our favourite café "Bolero" in Lyss and rang in the holidays with an espresso. I love it when we can celebrate ourselves and our togetherness so beautifully.
Then home and pack. Packing for a motorbike trip is easy: one side case is the kitchen, one for my clothes and the top case for Gerd's things. All in all, we have about as much per person as fits into a standard jute bag. A pair of knickers, a change of trousers and two shirts. A fleece jacket for cold evenings (haha, it's between 30 and 40 degrees in Spain at the moment) and I packed a blouse, wanting to be a bit chic when I'm lustwalking through Barcelona.
So, our suitcases are quickly packed. Tent, sleeping mats and sleeping bag are already ready and half of the pasta salad we had prepared as a picnic for tomorrow's trip has already been eaten. It went very well with the good red wine. Only our technical stuff still needs sorting. Camera, mobile phone, chargers. And last but not least, our dear flatmate brought along his GoPro. So I quickly charged it and put all the charging cables and plugs and spare SD cards in my small and well-sorted technology box. So, when everything has its place, I am satisfied and can start enjoying the evening. Alone. Because now my darling is already in bed and asleep while I sit here and can't sleep because of the excitement. I feel like a little child about to embark on its first big journey. And I have to say: I travel quite a lot. But this time it's a little different. Why? I have no idea. In any case, there is anticipation.

We are travelling on a motorbike for the umpteenth time. So this is not new. We are travelling with a tent for the first time. That is new and will be exciting. We want to test whether we like this way of travelling. We want to try low-budget. Let's see if we succeed. And what's new for us is that we are travelling almost unplanned. The only fixed destination is Spain. We want to let ourselves drift. We want to see where the journey takes us. We want to meet people. We want to enjoy nature. We want to get closer to each other, have time for each other. Experience things together. We are both really looking forward to our trip.
Let's go. Tomorrow morning we want to go to Stresa. It's on Lake Maggiore and already in Italy. I'm already looking forward to the brilliant vegan chocolate ice cream. Last year I was there with the children and couldn't get enough of this chocolate ice cream. And what I still have to get in Stresa: this mega-genius Italian herb mix. So our holidays are saved in terms of food: every day we have vegetable stir-fry with Italian herbs. Let's see how long Gerd can keep it up.
