Great Journey 🇸🇪 Day 519
And then it just stood by the side of the road: the small herd of reindeer.

For days we have been passing elk and reindeer warning signs and instead of finishing the jumper I let my eyes wander in a semicircle over the road from forest to forest, looking for antlers and the animals attached to them.

The travel guide writes about the stretch from Umeå to Piteå "boring, nothing worth seeing, just go through quickly, but watch out for the speed cameras!".

This guidebook has NO idea whatsoever! We see our first small herd of reindeer and a little later some more and again later some more! Our hearts are pounding and we are beaming! What a day! Boring! Pah, the guidebook has no idea!

We are prepared, of course, and have read up on the differences between moose and reindeer on the internet. Moose are bigger (can weigh as much as a small car!), tend to travel alone and have shovel antlers (aha!). Reindeer are in the family business on the slopes, where even the girls can have antlers and reindeer hooves creak when they walk.

We didn't hear the creaking, we cheered too loudly. But everything else we can now confirm - we are now living witnesses! Yes, reindeer are as we have learned.
