Thoughts - Spain - Connection to my treasure

Connection to my treasure

In retrospect, even if we never want to compare, they were our best holidays. We were very balanced, very harmonious, we could laugh, we experienced incredibly beautiful things, saw great nature and architecture and all in all we had a fantastic time.

We didn't quite achieve our goal of living low-budget. We spent about CHF 3300 for the whole 24 days, which is way above our goal of getting by on CHF 80 per day. The biggest cost factors were the ferry, the overnight stays in Switzerland, the sights and the ugly hostel in Barcelona. And if we're honest: the cities make low-budget a difficult undertaking. If you're just travelling around, taking care of yourself, going shopping now and then, Spain is not expensive. And an espresso here or there for one euro is not much. But we went out to eat too often, did far too little actual cooking, and actually spent a lot of money on sightseeing. We don't know yet whether we think that's good or bad. On the one hand, the sights are very important to us, but on the other hand, this would not be an option for a longer trip.

We have already discussed that we might have to go wild camping from time to time, which is actually allowed almost everywhere outside Europe. Then we would have to cook more ourselves and provide for ourselves. We wouldn't be able to eat much organic food anyway, as it's almost impossible to get in most countries. We would also have to make a daily budget, which we would definitely want to stick to. Furthermore, it is important that we stay longer in one place, that saves petrol costs and you can really pay much less at the campsites for longer stays. We can settle in sooner and also buy something in stock if we stay longer at one place. Another idea is couchsurfing, but that never worked out in our case. That would be free and we would get to know even more people.

What I would definitely like to do is work on the road. Either graphic work or participating in some kind of project where we can live and eat for free in exchange for work. I would like that very much. But that was absolutely not possible in the 3 weeks we had, because we wanted to see a lot of things.

We travelled slower this time than usual, we crossed out some things on the list and simply travelled with more break days. This has done us a lot of good and also feels better for us. This way we can feel the respective place better.

Our equipment has been quite good so far, our tent is nothing, that would definitely need to be replaced for another trip. We haven't used the cookware enough to really judge it. Our bowls and mugs are great. We like the minimal. As for clothes, Gerd had packed just right, I had packed myself another blouse, which I wore then but didn't need. I also had a second pair of sturdy shoes with me, which I didn't need. What I was missing were chairs and a table. I saw that they are already available with a fairly small pack size and that would still suit me.

But all these things now in the conclusion are trifles. Our holidays were unspeakably beautiful, we have once again found more to each other and I feel the strong connection to my treasure every day.
