Great Journey 🇸🇪 Day 523
Gammelstad means nothing other than "old town". This Swedish doesn't seem so difficult.
The church town of Gammelstad is on our way north. And since we are somehow hooked on these Unesco lists, it is on our wish list. Here we find a medieval stone church next to hundreds of little red church houses. And as if that wasn't enough - right next door are these old wooden buildings typical of northern Sweden.
We start at the Visitor Centre, get a loving, intensive, informative and enthusiastic introduction from the local staff. We walk through the small town (rather a village?), trudge through the alleys in deep snow, admire the old church, the huge organ located there and can well imagine how it can be here in summer. With colourful market hustle and bustle with hard-working craftsmen and fragrant baking and cooking stalls.
Finally, we return to the visitor centre, hand in our audio guide and give the lady there a glass of Riblusa. And we learn that no marigolds grow up here. She is all the more grateful for our little homemade ointment.
I like these houses + the rollator in red very much 😍, it's just a topic at my ma....
Thank you, you wonderful one!
Greetings from the snow!
Kind regards - Heike
