The Château de Valangin is located in the middle of the beautiful Jura. As I research, it was built, changed, rebuilt and so on by constantly changing owners. It has been a museum for over 120 years. It shows mostly exhibits of the castle's martial past with collections of historical weapons and cannonballs. Well, for me as a non-violent thinking and living person, not so exciting.
So I just trudge over the castle walls and meet the only, but four-legged, residents. There are no visitors, who wants to visit a castle in the rain? The castle garden has countless beds full of herbs. A few of the herbs I know seem eager to come along. They are already picked and in my hand as a bunch.
Behind the château, there is a small river with an even smaller hiking trail and nature playground. And since I'm already soaking wet, I can also walk along there. A very cute corner.
In the Jura itself, you can discover so many small, enchanted natural beauties. All you have to do is stop and stray from the path: and you're there, in the most beautiful nature. Not so rocky and alpine, but more like pre-mountainous, rounded hills, many forests, winding roads and sweet villages. Simply beautiful. Even in the rain.
