Great Journey 🏍🏍 Day 37

Gerd has organised a water taxi bus shuttle (or something like that). All visitors to Venice are spat out of the water bus directly at the Rialto Bridge. Now we are standing there too.

The last rays of the sun warm us more than we would like, we sweat in our trousers, jackets and boots and many people look at us askance because of our gear.

Now first to the hotel, 3 x right, 2x left, cross three bridges, then again zig and zag and back and forth and we should already be there. We walk through streets, lanes, alleys, have to bend down because not everything was built for 1.80m+ people. Should I put my helmet back on?

We drag our tired bodies, our heavy motorbike gear and our bags through Venice. At least the GPS works and we find our hotel after a quarter of an hour. On the way to the hotel, I find it hard to resist the many culinary temptations. Knowing full well that we are staying 5 nights and 6 associated days. So there will be plenty of time to enjoy pasta, pizza and cafè lungo.

After a refreshing shower, we end the evening with a walk (in any direction). No idea whether it makes sense to go east, west, north or south. At some point we find ourselves in the famous Markus Square. We don't bother with the espresso at Café Florian (5.80 per sip), the setting sun compensates us. We watch the hustle and bustle, think about what it would be like if Venice were full of tourists and what it will be like when our dear friend from Bern comes to visit us tomorrow.

I myself can't believe I'm in Venice now. Can't really grasp the place or the incredible beauty. Will wait and see how Venice feels the next day.
