Turkey - So that's Asia over there

Great Journey 🏍 Day 282
So that's Asia over there.
When I open my paper map for the first time, I see a small lake south of Istanbul. We have a few days and want to go around. And we soon realise that Turkey is much bigger than Bulgaria. The distances are longer, the journeys can quickly take two or three hours.

Well, let's get ready for it. We find a beautiful winding mountain road directly along the Sea of Marmara (that was the "little lake") and are invited for tea during our first break.

Along the road it smells like a summer holiday: the scent of pine trees, sea breezes and date trees. The thermometer climbs to 30 degrees for the first time since the start of the trip and we are glad that we decided to wear airy motorbike clothing.

The gaze keeps wandering to the other side of the Sea of Marmara, because there it is: Asia. Yes, we have been to Asia several times, but this time it is somehow different. Somehow it feels bigger. (Later I find out from Gerd that he doesn't have this "feeling bigger", okay, I just feel for enough for two).

In the evening in Çanakkale, we take the ferry, cross over quite unspectacularly with several commuters and have made it. We take a room with a view and as much noise as possible at night ("Yes, I would like to be in the centre!") and set off on foot to discover the beautiful old town and the harbour promenade.
