Big journey 🏍🏍 Day 39
Today we head into the city before sunrise. We wander through dark alleyways, hear the rustling brooms of the street sweepers in the twilight, the crisp shouts of the supermarket boat delivery men and the first cosy chats of the few real inhabitants on the street.
We stroll across the completely empty St Mark's Square, watch the many sunrise photographers (of course we're not tourists, we're not!) and actually manage to get an espresso doppio in the front row of an absolutely empty star hotel street café (it's not that easy if you're not a 5-star-plus hotel guest).
And then it comes out, the sun. It does everything right. At the right time, in the right place, the gondolas swing in the waves and the day can begin.
