Great Journey 🇩🇰 Day 573/574
Cobbled paths, colourful houses, canals full of romantic houseboats and, again and again, the many bicycle paths. Thousands of cyclists surround us when we once again stop enthusiastically and dreamily on their paths.

Instead of going to one of the many museums, we are drawn outside, to the streets, to the cafés. Copenhagen feels surprisingly quiet and cosy. Hardly any car traffic, here a delivery van, there a taxi.

We watch the many families being driven through the city by the father of the family in the bike-loading box mounted in front. I glance briefly over at my beloved and his look clearly says "No, don't even think about it!" Well, we'll just keep walking.

After a leisurely dinner, we take another stroll through the freetown of Christiania. Our current favourite read-aloud app Gigi (who is now called TripTastic) tells us in detail about the alternative housing estate, which is "tolerated" by Denmark as an autonomous community. What exactly that means, we do not learn.

The children's playgrounds are off-limits to adults here (no "Kevin, watch out!" shouts) and there are no cars here either. The houses are winding and rather simply built. The architecture looks as if it got along without an architect. Nature decorates the facades more than colour.

If Copenhagen is already hyggelig, Christiania is even more so. Even though we are taught that hyggelig is the ultimate in cosiness and that hyggelig cannot be improved upon.

And yes, Christiana also has other sides that we learn about. But we don't have to go along with everything. So, Pippi Longstocking-style, we only look at the good sides and make our world the way we like it.
