Great Journey 🏍 Day 345
Simply a fence. A border crossing. And everything is different.

The logic at the border crossings will probably never be clear to us. I, as a pillion passenger, have to cross on foot, Gerd, as the driver, gets in the queue with the vehicles. With Malou, which is registered in my name. I'm curious to see if that will work out.

I'm over there in no time, he's waiting and has to change the queue several times. Okay, I want to use the time to get money from the machine. Bad luck: the machine only accepts 4-digit pins. But since we have 5-digit pins, I don't get any GEL, Georgian Lari, for the time being. Oh great. There I am with my Turkish Lira and a few Bulgarian Leva.

Time is ticking away, and while actively doing nothing, I realise that my telephone provider charges 15 francs for 1 MB if I switch to the Georgian network. I need a Georgian sim card. That's for sure. We also have to take out car insurance, ours doesn't seem to be valid in Georgia, only "imfau"...

At some point I observe a heated argument between the border official and the motorcyclist who is standing in front of Gerd in the queue. A little later the latter even has to turn back, and there is a loud, shall we say, conversation. Gerd, calm as a cucumber, once again changes the queue on command, squats down in front of the window and hands papers in and out. I see the passport being passed back and forth. Again the motorbike papers. At some point the border guard and Gerd look at me, who is waiting behind the barrier in Georgia, ah, okay, that's her bike. Both smile. Stamp, bang, done. Finally my little travel group comes to me, I jump on and off we go.

A little later, we buy insurance at a small stall, and the salesman takes me into his little booth. He shows me photos of Georgia on google image search! It was really a beautiful country and we had certainly never visited such a beautiful country! You would even see snow on the mountain peaks in summer. Well, if that's not a great country.

And off we go, to this oh so beautiful country!
