Great Journey Day 706
We should definitely go to Cork, says Sabine from Edinburgh. Well, let's do it then.
We now have the "Wild Atlantic Coast Way" on our agenda. This seems to be a beautiful route, always along the cliffy and partly very lonely west coast. The guidebook writes something about 2,600 kilometres of partly single-track road. That will be quite winding and hopefully very lonely, because the country is only 486 km long.
In the morning, after an almost sleepless night (yes, that also happens when there is arguing, shouting and partying on the pitch next to you and we are too tired to change pitches - we have to become more flexible in this respect!
The travel guide writes: "Rough shell, soft core, that certainly applies to Ireland's second largest city Cork". And further: "...lively metropolis in the southwest, which has something to offer for art lovers as well as for shopaholics, pub crawlers and real gourmets."
We take it slow, we stroll through the city. Eat a few snacks in one of the many wonderful restaurants. We leave museums on the left, as well as galleries. Life here takes place on the street, we just observe. Stroll through the English Market, which was already used as a trading centre in the 18th century.
On the streets of Cork we listen to many different street musicians, we spend all our change and even have to get a refill at the last "concert". It's a good thing that the combo "The Ferrymen" plays right in front of a bank. We stay here for half an hour and just sit. At the moment.
