After weeks of waiting, they are finally here: our suitcases. We decided on aluminium suitcases. We think it really looks like an adventure. Okay, they still need to get a little dirtier. But they were delivered clean for the time being.
But the challenge was the extension. What is no problem for anyone with a modicum of manual skills was a huge deal for us. I can sew (handicraft: yes, useful straight: no), Gerd can build networks and set up servers.
So we set out on our first wrenching action (I remember: we want to go on a big trip and have absolutely zero experience with motorbikes). After all, we want to learn. To get to know people and nature. And probably also to learn how to screw.
--- Day 1: Suitcases arrive, we only have the mini tool and don't manage to loosen a single screw from the bike. I even manage to screw up the Torx (I now know Torx screws, the mothers among the screws) with my stupid tool.
--- Day 2: Call the friend and ask for good tools (Thanks!!!) Finally we manage to unscrew the old case holder. Almost. Suddenly the exhaust pipe is in the way. It's sacred, it must not come off under any circumstances. So that's it for today. Thinking and consulting YouTube.
--- Day 3: Trip to the bike dealer event with the question of what to do in the luggage. The stubborn exhaust is in the way. Answer: The exhaust has to come off. Oha! In the meantime, we have also managed to break off the Torx from the friend. Good thing it's Mother's Day today and the son (who is now really learning a useful trade) has a toolbox with new Torx in the boot. The last screw is now off too. When we are alone again, we set about dismantling the exhaust. Back and forth. It doesn't budge! Force? Hammer? When Gerd goes in for a moment to read up on what to do, I shake and shake my Malou, the hammer helps a little and finally the damn thing gives way and we have the exhaust in our hands together. We feel like HEROES! Almost like motorbike mechanics. It gets dark, we adjourn. To be continued
