Great Journey 🇳🇴 Day 552
"Come on, let's turn here. I've got a little 'we-can-go-there' on my map!"
And then we wind our way through the mountains. Huge frozen waterfalls hang from the rocks. Deep down, a river fjord (fjord river?) splashes and we can't get enough already from the approach.
Arriving in Nusfjord, we learn that the village is one of the pilot projects of European monument protection. Parts of the village stand on wooden legs in the water, because the harbour, which is probably needed for a fishing village, is quite narrow and limited by steep slopes. The buildings are mainly from the late 18th and early 19th century and look tiptop, thanks to the preservation of historical monuments.
We stroll across the wooden terraces (in summer they call it an open-air museum) along the red cottages. We look out over the fjord (which is not called Nusfjord, of course, but Bottelvika) and wonder if this is the right place to stay for a few weeks. We could write a book, we could finish all the knitting projects, or we could do none of that and just sit on the terrace and look out over the water.
We linger in the small café and are thrilled. We feel a bit like we're in a miniature railway world. In the café itself there are not only - as always in Norway - beautiful souvenirs to buy. The whole decoration seems somehow from another time. Even the old cash register rattles briefly. Until we pay cashless - quite modern and like everywhere in Norway.
Hours later we find ourselves in Felix. So what happened to the plan to stay here?
