Great Journey Day 578 ff.
Our decision is made quickly and rather simply: we will quickly jet through Germany.
Not all countries have such a free (and we mean mask-free) approach at the moment. We are all the more pleased that on our journey so far we have been able to live almost (of course, there are always exceptions) without a mask, to enter restaurants and museums without certificates, and that even Switzerland, which we are very much looking forward to, has for a while now dispensed with showing ID just for a coffee. A friend writes aptly about this, and I'll quote him here once, unasked and as always very gladly: "We differ in our assessment of the Corona situation." We'll leave it at that, because it fits.
It is not always easy to travel in these times. But it is feasible - also in accordance with the rules. We have proven that in the last 578 days. And yes, it is definitely more pleasant to travel in countries that, unlike Germany or Switzerland, have made different decisions for the same situation.
When Gerd is snubbed for a break at a rest stop on the German autobahn, he is told that he is wearing the wrong mask (oh dear, had we already changed federal states? What rules apply here and now?) we've had enough and decide on a change of strategy: so we'll pay private visits to the family and update each other. Fill up our family love account and indulge our cake & pie addictions.
By the way: It's been a few days since our travel day 578, and in the meantime other rules (which we don't pursue any further) have come into force in Germany. At the beginning of our adventure, we decided to publish our journey with a time delay, for reasons. And we are sure that we will be able to give you and yours a little pleasure - a little later in the day, but always between 6 and 7 in the morning.
