Great Journey 🇨🇭 Day 470/1
3rd Advent walk through the winter wonderland.
We are following an idea we came up with ourselves years ago: the big passes in Switzerland are closed due to the weather. So many villages that are busy in summer are dreamily quiet in winter. These villages are our destinations.
The roads wind upwards, are only cleared "e chly" and children slide recklessly down the slopes on their sledges and bobsleds. With some of the kids we can't tell up from down, they are so thickly wrapped up in cocoons.
We park our snowmobile Felix just before the "here-it-goes-no-further" barrier at the side of the road (so we assume the road under the snow there), wrap ourselves up thickly and start hiking. Slowly the sun appears over the Grimsel Pass, the sky is clearer than clear, the cold cracks mightily.
The village is quiet, one or two guests are sitting in the "Bären" with hot chocolate (or whatever you drink from tall cups on a Sunday morning), two cross-country skiers are standing in the middle of the main road, which now serves as a chatting place, and standing long instead of walking.
The little church, right next to the always-open book exchange room, is ringing with a chill and the sun makes it to every corner. The icicles glisten and, looking at a few children, we remember how much we too used to enjoy eating snow and licking icicles.
Why don't we do that anymore? Have we grown up? Oh dear, there is no justification for this stupid growing up. Help, this must change at once! Pippi, help!
