Great Journey 🇸🇪 Day 529/2
We are on holiday.
We decided to stay a few days longer in Kiruna. We had no idea that it would be almost 2 weeks.

Kiruna itself is known for its ore mine. Every third inhabitant works in or for the mine. Besides, the town may not have the most moving history, but it has a moving future! The old town will have to move because of the mine. In the next 10 years, the historic church and a lot of other houses will be moved to a new place, a bit further away from the mine, and rearranged.

We also want to visit the mine, but today we are going to visit the city. Because: the sun is shining and we have been sitting in front of our computers in the van for 2 days in beautiful weather.

The church of Kiruna was consecrated in 1912, the bell tower in front of it already 5 years earlier. As we enter, we are overcome by a warmth and a sense of well-being that we rarely feel in churches. The special construction, all made of wood, the square-geometric shape and the warm light are unique.

We sit here for a while and are just in the now. Later, when we leave the church, we discover the German-made organ.

All that will move with it. So how they're going to do it is a mystery to us. Beam by beam or on rails? We have no idea, but are curious to see when the time comes.

Next to the church, we admire ice sculptures made by artists, which are sponsored and awarded every year by the mining company. We end the day appropriately with a delicious Pad Thai and red curry at the snack bar. Because good restaurants don't seem to be the issue here.
