Grand Tour - Ireland - Day 711
We have completed the first of the four southern corners. Just under five days. If I extrapolate that, I see a long autumn ahead of us in Ireland.

We just had a request from a podcast: could we describe the highlights of our trip in 5 minutes? 5 minutes? No way! We decline and stroll stupidly on to Bantry. Here we fill up with water, empty what we have used and continue to Garinish Island. It's not supposed to be that spectacular here, the young man tells us, and we take him for a short ride.

Well, we'll see that first. We climb aboard an old cutter (Queen II calls it the soul seller), let ourselves be ferried to the island, encounter quite photogenic seals and then dive into a quite enchanting botanical garden.

When we want to pay the entrance fee, we learn that on Wednesdays the entrance is free. Even better.

Paths wind through the landscape and lead to a series of fascinating garden buildings, such as the Greek temple, the clock tower, the casita and an original Martello tower. Once the home of Annan and Violet Bryce, it is now a place for sightseeing and rest.

Once again, as is so often the case in gardens, we are overcome by absolute calm. We stroll along, just a tiny bit annoyed by this one child who is screaming at the top of his voice, begging for an ice cream and eventually gets it (so why not like this?) and don't really want to go any further.

Unfortunately, it was only this morning that we estimated how long we would be on the road if we continued to stroll around like this.

Merci for "travelling with us

We are thinking about taking another break from travelling in the summer and visiting our families in Germany and Switzerland. One of the ideas is to organise a Lecture about our long journey to the Persian Gulf to prepare. If you would like to, what would interest you the most? We will also tell stories here that don't find a place here on the blog. We're thinking of the Bern and Berlin area - simply because we have family there. But other places are also conceivable. Feel free to write to us.
