We can't resist her offer to take us to a restaurant, nor can we resist her offer to clean our trainers, which have just come out of the washing machine and are therefore sparkling clean. Trainers!
Never in our lives have we cleaned trainers. Here in Istanbul, we are told that this is very necessary. The question of whether it is for our shoes or for the shoe shiners remains unanswered.
Our son stands a bit apart, just laughing and probably thinking his piece.
