Turkey - "Once-in-a-lifetime moments" in Göreme, Cappadocia

22 July 2021

Great Journey 🏍 Day 319
"Once-in-a-lifetime moments in Cappadocia.
Driving over the Golden Gate Bridge once in a lifetime, strolling through the Colosseum in Rome once, roaming through the tea fields in Sri Lanka once. And once a balloon ride over Cappadocia. For us, absolute goosebumps. (So that's how we imagine it.)

Okay, there are so many more places to wish for. But this Cappadocia had an attraction like no other. We arrive in Göreme after a long drive. A small, somewhat touristy place (thanks to "C" but not very busy here) with heaps of cave hotels. We have the feeling we are in a film set. We take a room and immerse ourselves in the Cappadocian world.

We enjoy the sunset on the roof terrace with a view over the tufa boules and tufa asparagus. I'm sure there are technical terms for this, but we don't care about them right now.

So if you want to get really romantic, this would be the place to be! Oriental floor cushions, cosy tea, pistachio baklava, the warm night wind, shooting stars in the starry sky and the dream of a balloon ride the next morning. So, off to bed, the alarm clock rings at half past three tomorrow. We start at 4! We fly (actually drive, we've learned!) with the balloon into the sunrise. (It's obvious that I couldn't really sleep because of the excitement, isn't it?)
