Great journey 🇳🇴 Day 557 The night was short, the somewhat cheaper cabin category was clearly noticeable: we had the feeling of sleeping between the engine deck and the loading ramp. It is especially nice because the Hurtigrute also calls at several ports at night. So we knew every time when we were going to land, even without windows. The noise and vibration level was enormous in our cabin.

OK, just one night. And before we get grumpy, we just get up very early, take up position again on deck 9 for the sunrise and a little later on deck 8 in the lounge for a cosy "knit-in" with a first hot drink. Some women are sitting around knitting. I ask if I can join them with my needlework. I may.

The Norwegian women tell me that they travel with the Hurtigruten every now and then. After all, the view of Norway from the ship is unique. And - they mention this several times - they never take that much peace and time for themselves in their normal lives.

Later, an elegant, elderly lady and her daughter, about our age, join us. "Where from, where to?" The usual. We tell them that unfortunately we are only going for a short time, they tell us that their daughter is fulfilling her mum's lifelong dream. To go all the way to the North Cape and see all the fjords. And maybe - the old lady's eyes light up as she tells us - they will see the northern lights.

We tell them about the many northern lights we have seen night after night through our skylight and wish them both from the bottom of our hearts that they too will experience some on their journey. Suddenly the lady looks at me seriously and says, with moist eyes: "I started dreaming much too late!

Gerd and I are sitting there, goose bumps are spreading, my knitting has been resting on my lap for a long time because my hands are trembling with emotion and tears are coming to our eyes too. Norway's most beautiful fjords glide past us, Gerd takes my hand and we know that we have started dreaming soon enough.

"I started dreaming far too late!"
