Great Journey 🇸🇪 Day 536
Abisko National Park is our destination. We don't get far, because 40 kilometres before Abisko we find a nice campsite by the lake. Tomorrow morning we want to explore the area here.
We have given up the idea of hiking trails. We trudge through the snow. We make a trudge, so to speak. It doesn't seem to matter that we got completely snowed in overnight and that the fresh snow has piled up another 30 centimetres.
Felix is pretty to look at in his white dress, but we still drive him up to the side of the road - better safe than sorry - and start hiking. In the forest we see animal tracks once again. At the roadside letterboxes. And at some point frozen boats. Are we on the lake already?
It's really strange here in Sweden, we never see water. All the lakes are frozen and snowed in. We walk a bit more, turn around at some point and decide to take a tea break. Now we walk all the way back, following our tracks that are already snowed in again.
Arriving at the road, we read that the road to Norway, which we actually want to take today, is closed. And a little later - typically us - we find ourselves in Abisko in a cosy café and while away the day there with a view of the lake (or smooth snowy surface, as you like) with fika and the best internet.
Yes, closed roads also have their good points!
