Great Journey 🏍 Day 323
We leave Cappadocia with heavy hearts. But only to set off for new experiences.

We notice that today is a holiday. The Feast of Sacrifice. Later we even learn that it will be a week of celebration. All to.

Gerd spirals us higher and higher into the mountains. Slaughter is going on in the open garages and courtyards. Blood runs down the street. And people are sitting all around drinking tea. Gerd can hardly see the whole thing, I get sick to my stomach, I (unfortunately) have a good observation post.

Faith or no faith, I have never understood the technique of sacrifice. However, I have also never understood why people have to eat animals at all. But that is another matter and remains undiscussed here.

At the top of the mountain, actually a ski resort in winter, the air cools down to a refreshing 30 degrees and we take a break. We are immediately invited to breakfast by a Turkish-German family. They ignore the fact that we only agree to tea. In no time at all there are two plates for us, tea too. And we start feasting.

Turkish breakfast is great everywhere, but here it was even better. On the one hand because of the special selection and on the other because of the company. We exchange ideas about travel medicine, are given amber stones and I can finally give something back: the homemade calendula ointment helps to soothe the sunburn of the elder of the daughters.

We also learn a lot about the Feast of Sacrifice. Not everything is immediately clear to us, after all, we naturally lack a lot of basic information about Islam. We hear a lot about the role of Islamic women here in Turkey. We notice that, whether they wear a veil or not, the women here are modern. They know what they want and don't mind that I sit at the same table in an off-the-shoulder shirt. For us, the tradition here is still a bit of a mystery, we try as best we can to make up for what we lack in understanding with smiles and friendly words.
