Great Journey 🇳🇴 Day 560
The last ferry brought us to Vega Island last night. Since 2004, the archipelago has been a Unesco World Heritage Site. We are exhausted, just want to arrive. We look for a nice spot and fall asleep on the spot.
In the morning, the sun spoils us once again, we stroll around the museum and the tourist information. It looks nice from the outside. Unfortunately, we are here 2 months before the season.
Eider ducks actually breed here in spring, but we are still too early for that too. The Vega Islands themselves are considered one of the least explored island treasures in the world.
When we want to explore the island after an extensive stone-rock walk, we quickly realise that 15 on 15 kilometres is not really huge. At the end of the island we find a wooden staircase that leads up almost 2000 steps to Ravnfloget mountain. There, at a height of 450 metres, Gerd enjoys a panoramic view of the sea as well as the islands on the Helgeland coast.
After about 1000 steps, I - a very loving wife - make my way back. After all, the gentleman wants a cosy late breakfast with freshly baked rolls after his workout!
(The fact that he will then complain for days that his calves are sore should only be mentioned here in passing).
