Great Journey 🏴 Day 644

great journey 🏴 day 644 scotland. we have a thousand wish points on our

Scotland.
We have a thousand wish points on our map of Scotland. And then read this by Theodor Fontane:

"It is a bad habit, which prevails in Scotland as everywhere else, to impose on the traveller, as it were, a certain itinerary, a certain order of sights.
Some railway or steamship company finds it good to set this lake, this mountain, this island as the most beautiful and worth seeing; Regular trips are arranged, comfortable hotels spring up like mushrooms, carriages and postilions, boatmen and bagpipers, everything is put at the service of the company, and the traveller, who is a human being and wants to see as much as possible in as short a time as possible with as little money as possible, hands himself over to these entrepreneurs like a piece of luggage and thereby deprives himself of perhaps the greatest charm of travelling, of the charm of having seen what is special, what is hidden, what is unearthly. A small beauty that we have for ourselves is dearer to us than the great and general one."

Great, here we are with our wish list, peppered with all the tips from other travellers to Scotland, depriving ourselves of the pleasure of the hidden, the uncommon.

We start with a two-day break by the sea. Watching the seagulls fly. Notice how the tides alternate and try not to think about our Scotland wish list.

PS. Yes, we know that Scotland is part of the UK.

Merci for "travelling with us

We are thinking about taking another break from travelling in the summer and visiting our families in Germany and Switzerland. One of the ideas is to organise a Lecture about our long journey to the Persian Gulf to prepare. If you would like to, what would interest you the most? We will also tell stories here that don't find a place here on the blog. We're thinking of the Bern and Berlin area - simply because we have family there. But other places are also conceivable. Feel free to write to us.
