Great Journey 🏴 Day 648

great journey 🏴 day 648 the scottish highlands. magic in my ears

The Scottish Highlands. Magic in my ears. Roughness in my imagination. Fluttering in my belly.

If only we knew whether we are already in the Highlands. One says that the Highlands begin in the mountains north of Perth and Dundee, elsewhere we read that the real Highlands only begin in Inverness.

Today we will ask. After all, we are in the Cairngorms
National Park on the way. We drive over one of the highest road passes in Scotland, the Cairnwell Pass with a sweet 670 m and then simply turn left, into wild Scotland.

The road gets narrower and narrower, at some point it is just single-track, as they say here. Every now and then we have to manoeuvre to let oncoming traffic pass. But even that soon disappears, we are almost alone here.

When the road ends, we put Felix with the few other cars. We continue on foot along the River Dee. The path meanders comfortably up and down, the river water is crystal clear, coming from the mountains. From mountains that actually all look like hills. Hilly mountains, that is. Small waterfalls and rapids create variety and make a lot of noise.

Our eyes search the water for salmon (they are supposed to be here and we don't actually know if it is salmon migration season), but in the end we "only" see a herd of huge deer in the forest. Also beautiful.

This little detour to the "last chracher" was really worth it.

Merci for "travelling with us

We are thinking about taking another break from travelling in the summer and visiting our families in Germany and Switzerland. One of the ideas is to organise a Lecture about our long journey to the Persian Gulf to prepare. If you would like to, what would interest you the most? We will also tell stories here that don't find a place here on the blog. We're thinking of the Bern and Berlin area - simply because we have family there. But other places are also conceivable. Feel free to write to us.

Do you think our travel experiences might be of interest to others? Then you can share the Share post quietly. By e-mail or however you want to do it.

In addition, if you haven't already done so, you can use our Newsletter subscribe. Here you will receive all our experiences in your mailbox whenever we publish something new or once a week on Fridays: live-pur.ch/newsletter

We are also very happy to hear your views, your tips or your questions. Just comment on the post!
