Great Journey 🏴 Day 650

"I couldn't live with so little!" we hear again and again.

Minimalism. Whereby we refer minimalist only to things. Not to memories, experiences, feelings.

Yes, we own few things, take care of them and love every single piece. Even if it sounds strange: it gives us security. We have everything we need. We don't need more (except for new wool!).

When we made the decision for our professions many years ago, there was never any talk of working without being tied to a specific location. We could never have imagined being permanently on the road. This kind of life plan was unknown to us.

When "van life" came more and more into our perception, we found it crazy at first, then interesting, then "only for the others" and at some point, when we saw who was travelling with how little, it was also feasible for us.

So we started dreaming, then planning. When it was clear that it was possible, we rigorously cleaned out. Every item (and we had a 180 square metre flat full of insanely important things) was looked at, turned over three times and decided whether it could stay or go.

At the end of this long process (who says everything has to be quick?) we felt very light and knew exactly: what remains is what we need and like.

Time jump: when we switched from the motorbike to the van, we noticed how good a little more space does us. How pleasant it is to have a place for everything again, even to have one pair of jeans more. And cosy corners, yes, we enjoy those the most.

And yet some cupboards in Felix are completely empty. Because we simply don't know what to put in there.

If you had asked us in the past what makes us happy, we would never have answered "having few things". Today we can say that we compensate for thing-minimalism with lots of encounters, experiences and memories.

Somehow a comforting thought.

How are you doing with it?

PS.: We write here exclusively our way, knowing that there are many ways to satisfaction.

Merci for "travelling with us

We are thinking about taking another break from travelling in the summer and visiting our families in Germany and Switzerland. One of the ideas is to organise a Lecture about our long journey to the Persian Gulf to prepare. If you would like to, what would interest you the most? We will also tell stories here that don't find a place here on the blog. We're thinking of the Bern and Berlin area - simply because we have family there. But other places are also conceivable. Feel free to write to us.

Do you think our travel experiences might be of interest to others? Then you can share the Share post quietly. By e-mail or however you want to do it.

In addition, if you haven't already done so, you can use our Newsletter subscribe. Here you will receive all our experiences in your mailbox whenever we publish something new or once a week on Fridays: live-pur.ch/newsletter

We are also very happy to hear your views, your tips or your questions. Just comment on the post!
