While we are on royal ground, we also have to visit Balmoral Castle. We are a little surprised that there are so many camper vans in the car park and coaches are also arriving en masse. We simply join the queue.
We pay quite a lot to enter, then we are allowed to see the castle from the outside and the park in its entirety. After about 30 minutes we have seen it, literally.
The Queen lives here from August to October, probably invites people to hunt (not our thing at all) and 50 permanent staff take care of everything. It's all quite pretty to look at, but we still don't quite get the monarchy & queens thing.
So we do what we do best: We marvel at the architecture, the garden, the flowers and look out for squirrels.
The best thing we will remember about Balmoral Castle is the fresh water tap behind the information hut. So we can fill Felix up again and take a long shower in the evening. Everything has its good sides after all.
