Great Journey 🏴 Day 667

great journey 🏴 day 667 the scottish longing place par excellence. every w

The Scottish place of longing par excellence. Everyone wants to go to the Isle of Skye. Everyone talks about it. From home we get tips upon tips for the little island.

Skye itself is 80 km long and a little over 40 km at its widest point. It is also called the largest island of the inner hybrids. (Why does that word always make me think of haemorrhoids? There are inner and outer ones too, aren't there?)

So, back to Skye, we drive over the bridge (the mini-ferry seems to be out of service at the moment) and then comes the first thing worth noting: Hundreds of signs at the roadside. Here a café, there a B&B. Here a possibility to shop, there adventure excursions. After 5 minutes we are completely confused and cannot concentrate on nature. We had not expected this striking advertising jungle.

And we notice: we are and remain real country bumpkins.

We stop at a small pass road, make ourselves an early morning nap and rest our eyes. Gerd closed in bed, me half-meditating, looking at the rattling knitting needles.

Okay, we still had a small highlight: an old bridge, nice to look at. The coaches stop, empty out the snapping people, load them back in and on we go. So we do the same: get off, take pictures, take a little more time for a mini-hike, get back into our "fog" and head for Portree, the so-called capital of Skye.

Here we stroll through town (it's done quickly), look at the cute little harbour and strike up a conversation with two couples, each telling us "travel yarn" and sometime in the evening we have two invitations in our pocket: one to the Franconian Forest and one to Texas.

Merci for "travelling with us

We are thinking about taking another break from travelling in the summer and visiting our families in Germany and Switzerland. One of the ideas is to organise a Lecture about our long journey to the Persian Gulf to prepare. If you would like to, what would interest you the most? We will also tell stories here that don't find a place here on the blog. We're thinking of the Bern and Berlin area - simply because we have family there. But other places are also conceivable. Feel free to write to us.

Do you think our travel experiences might be of interest to others? Then you can share the Share post quietly. By e-mail or however you want to do it.

In addition, if you haven't already done so, you can use our Newsletter subscribe. Here you will receive all our experiences in your mailbox whenever we publish something new or once a week on Fridays: live-pur.ch/newsletter
