Great Journey 🏴 Day 686

big trip 🏴 day 686 this time we take our time for edinburgh. alone

This time we take our time for Edinburgh. We have to practise pronouncing the name alone: E-din-brah or, as we often hear it here too: E-din-bara. When we finally get it down, we are ready for the city.

We don't really have a plan for the city, we are still carrying the impressions of the Highland Games and want to let ourselves drift. Felix is parked outside the city in a small harbour, we take the bus and approach the city by public transport.

It's Sunday, the sun is shining and we stroll through the well-known and lesser-known streets and pass Edinburgh Castle but don't get in (no tickets left for today!). We sit in street cafés, listening to the sounds of a busy city on a Sunday. Here we hear pipe music, there a city guide tells old, new and funny stories to his listeners, and in St Giles' Cathedral we find peace. We sit quietly, watch the sunlight glinting through the coloured panes and notice how it always does us good in cities to pause for a moment in churches.

On our journey we feel again and again that no matter how much time we (can) take, we will never manage to look at everything. We rely more and more on chance (if it exists) and trust that life will show us what we should encounter.

So we make our way to what is probably the oldest house in the city, John Knox's House, a mishmash of residential, boarding and commercial buildings. We walk through narrow spiral staircases, marvel at "how people used to live" and let ourselves be seduced into the "old world" by the men and women who are available on every floor to answer questions and answer unasked questions.

Merci for "travelling with us

We are thinking about taking another break from travelling in the summer and visiting our families in Germany and Switzerland. One of the ideas is to organise a Lecture about our long journey to the Persian Gulf to prepare. If you would like to, what would interest you the most? We will also tell stories here that don't find a place here on the blog. We're thinking of the Bern and Berlin area - simply because we have family there. But other places are also conceivable. Feel free to write to us.

Do you think our travel experiences might be of interest to others? Then you can share the Share post quietly. By e-mail or however you want to do it.

In addition, if you haven't already done so, you can use our Newsletter subscribe. Here you will receive all our experiences in your mailbox whenever we publish something new or once a week on Fridays: live-pur.ch/newsletter

We are also very happy to hear your views, your tips or your questions. Just comment on the post!
