Great Journey 🏴 Day 690

great voyage 🏴 day 690 after a few days of rest and work in the harbour in ed

After a few days of rest and work in the harbour near Edinburgh, we are drawn back to the city. Yes, our working days bring peace and much needed structure to our (as mum always says) vagabond lives.

Today we have something very special on the agenda. We meet people with whom we have been connected for a very long time and yet have never met them "in real life". An internet acquaintance, so to speak.

But before we meet up with Katrin and her family, we stroll through "Instagram and selfie love" from yesterday and the day before: the National Gallery. We look at beautiful portraits and landscapes, admire the paintings and I wonder if capturing moments could have been an important point of one's identification back then. Back then, ruffled skirts and fruit bowl draped prettily, today image retouching and Instagram filters. In both cases: flawless, wrinkle-free, nicely set in light and scene. One seems valuable, the other is despised. It's worth thinking about.

On we go to our meeting. It's exciting: when we meet, no one has the feeling that we are actually strangers. We chat away, exchange ideas and walk all over the city. In the evening we have almost 20,000 steps "on our feet" and then leave the city together by train.

We get to know an almost 10-m camper (and appreciate the space!) eat and play "Settlers of Catan" together and are grateful for the really lively, intensive and wonderful day, which ends much later than usual with the best sunset in "our" harbour.
