"If you don't like the Scottish weather, just wait five minutes!"
We leave the Cairngorms National Park on a beautiful Scenic Route. We drive accompanied by sun and rain. The wind pushes Felix's slender silhouette sometimes to the left, sometimes to the right.
At some point we want to arrive, this time we are drawn to Inverness. Before that, we stop by Cullodon. This is where all the pain of the Scots lies dormant. Here they lost a great battle against the English and still mourn it today. The human and environmental consequences are immense.
I'll be honest, I only came here because I knew Culloden from Diana Gabaldon's beautiful Highland saga. Just to have a look, so to speak.
With our National Trust membership cards we get in for free, have a quick look at the exhibition and then take a look at a meadow that must have been the Cullodon Battlefield. All right, military, battles, power struggles and Englishmen and Scots full of battle testosterone pass us by. Where has our interest gone?
Then rather stone circles that leave room for dreams of time travel and romantically transfigured pasts. A quick look at Clava Cairns. The megalithic structures are impressive, but we have no idea why they were originally built. So we just let our imagination run wild and now know that they were built for time travel into the past and into the future. But since we still want to experience so much here and now, we let the possibility of an adventurous time travel pass us by.
