Grand Tour - Ireland - Day 721

Great Journey - Ireland - Day 721

We book a boat tour. As holidaymakers, this was actually always a must. Now, as long-term travellers (always with a sideways glance at the daily budget) we look carefully when we spend money on activities.Just yesterday we read from other former long-term travellers who are now back to "normal" holidays: "The difference between travelling and holidays is that when you're on holiday you have enough money for good food and good hotels."

True.

Nevertheless, we go on a boat trip today, leave Felix on the beach and walk off to the pier. A whole horde of people climb onto the soul-seller, which, I anticipate, performs quite wonderfully in man-sized waves. Better than a certain fellow traveller, I'd say.

It's off to the Blasket Islands. The islands are now uninhabited by humans. However, a number of animals cavort there, you can hike there and also swim at the enchanting beaches. The way there is - well, let's say - interesting for landlubbers like me. The blue water sparkles, the rugged cliff backdrop impresses and I better hold on twice.

Our boat circles the main island and we reach another, somewhat smaller island of the Blaskets. Inishnabro has a very special, very wonderful coastal shape. It looks a bit like grated chocolate. They call it "the church" because it probably resembles the silhouette. It even has an entrance.

The island has another special feature: reindeer live on it. In the 1970s, a politician bought the island and had reindeer brought to the island by helicopter. One could do that. The animals still live here today and were quite photogenic for us.

Our camera memory cards are filled to the brim and we sail on, hoping to see some dolphins or whales.

Merci for "travelling with us

We are thinking about taking another break from travelling in the summer and visiting our families in Germany and Switzerland. One of the ideas is to organise a Lecture about our long journey to the Persian Gulf to prepare. If you would like to, what would interest you the most? We will also tell stories here that don't find a place here on the blog. We're thinking of the Bern and Berlin area - simply because we have family there. But other places are also conceivable. Feel free to write to us.

By the way, we are travelling through Iran. It's possible that we won't be writing posts at all or will be late. We first have to see if it works for us. And whether we can even manage to write down all the fantastic impressions in good time.

Do you think our travel experiences might be of interest to others? Then you can share the Share post quietly. By e-mail or however you want to do it.

In addition, if you haven't already done so, you can use our Newsletter subscribe. Here you will receive all our experiences in your mailbox whenever we publish something new or once a week on Fridays: live-pur.ch/newsletter
