Grand Tour - Ireland - Day 735

Grand Tour - Ireland - Day 735

We wanted to take it easy for the last few days. And I have a bit of a feeling that Gerd is not really interested in my travel highlight wish point needles any more.

Here in Carrick-on-Shannon I guide him to a nice harbour parking space and a little later on foot to the probably smallest chapel in Europe and the second smallest in the world. He breathes a sigh of relief, the tour won't take long.

As we stand in the chapel, we both have to laugh. The Covid info sign says to keep a distance of 2 metres. Well then, one of us will have to leave the chapel.

After the death of his wife Mary Josephine, Mr Costello had work begun on the memorial chapel. It was to be both a memorial to his love and a final resting place for his wife and him. The chapel, where both now have their final resting place, is now tucked away between two newer buildings, just a few metres from Carrick's most prominent landmark, the town clock.

So: we quickly admired Carrick. Besides the chapel, however, we will especially remember the apple crumble in one of the many sugary sweet cafés on site.

Merci for "travelling with us

We are thinking about taking another break from travelling in the summer and visiting our families in Germany and Switzerland. One of the ideas is to organise a Lecture about our long journey to the Persian Gulf to prepare. If you would like to, what would interest you the most? We will also tell stories here that don't find a place here on the blog. We're thinking of the Bern and Berlin area - simply because we have family there. But other places are also conceivable. Feel free to write to us.
