There is hardly anything more beautiful than the magic of small live concerts. And when the summer is as wonderful as this one, it's even more fun. This year, we decided to go to small concerts rather than big ones. You'll often see information on a fence: "Concert in the church" or "Live music by the lake on Thursday". We keep an eye out for such posters and find what we are looking for.
In a smaller setting, a special atmosphere unfolds that is often missing in large arenas. The closeness to the music and the artists is tangible - the distance disappears and you feel directly connected to the musicians.
At small concerts, the music takes centre stage, unadulterated and without the distraction of big stage shows or elaborate effects. Every moment is unique because the artists can spontaneously respond to the audience, improvise and create an atmosphere that only exists on this particular evening. Here we feel the passion of the musicians, see the sparkle in their eyes and share the joy and energy with the few others who have followed the posters and invitations with us.
Small concerts also offer the chance to discover new, perhaps as yet unknown artists. You can experience them up close and in an environment that enables personal encounters and genuine connections. These experiences remain - the memories of evenings where you could feel the music more intensely than ever before.
We enjoy wonderful Thursday concerts on Lake Murten. The cantonal brass festival in Herzogenbuchsee. At a friend's house we experience alpine jazz with organ and bass saxophone. In Altfriedland we listen to chamber music with an outstanding harpsichord and in Brandenburg Cathedral to a world-famous, albeit unknown, saxophone quartet. In Potsdam, right in Sanssouci Park, a string quartet plays songs by Abba and Queen. What a great mix, and all in a candlelit ambience. The highlight so far, however, was the live Queen concert (okay, a fantastic Queen tribute show) at the Naturbühne in Brandenburg an der Havel. For an hour or two, I completely forgot that Freddie Mercury was already dead ...
There is an incomparable magic in the simplicity and closeness of small concerts. Here the music becomes an experience for us, and every moment remains unforgettable. And we realise once again: music is simply great. We don't settle on one direction, we feel the unifying language that we don't have with German, English, French and all the other languages on our journey. Music touches the heart. And we are always amazed at how well people can master their instruments and voices. Simply marvellous!
