Swisscom Outpost in Palo Alto - - It was early in the morning, the traffic was wonderfully tentative as we drove in at 6 in the morning. Jeffrey had invited us to tell us about Swisscom Outpost. And not only that. He told us about the emergence of Silicon Valley, about Professor Frederick Terman, who taught at Standford University and left his mark on the university and the area. He encouraged his students to go out and start their own businesses and succeed in the tech industry. He supported the founders, who were not called start-ups at the time, and after the Second World War Stanford even became a hotbed of talent in the high-tech sector. However, not everyone in our group realised that the entire success of the Valley began with military contracts. - - But back to the Outpost.
