When writing today's post, I realise that I have to write in a bit of a jumble. Coming from Regensburg, our medium-term goal was the Pritz Globetrotter meeting. But I had already reported on this on a daily basis.
So, that would now come here chronologically. Just so that everything is in order.
Coming from Regensburg, we are drawn further down the Danube. We end up in Vilshofen, a small town just outside Passau. All in all, Vilshofen is a quiet, perhaps even completely unspectacular town. We are looking for peace and quiet here after and above all before the exciting days of the past and coming weeks.
Our preferred parking space is occupied, the alternative parking space is loud. Really loud. We are right on the Danube, but behind us is the motorway, which is extremely busy. A little overtired, our nerves are on edge, we can't hold a conversation and have to shout over the car noise.
Gerd, realising that this is not a good place, packs up the table and chairs again and chauffeurs us up into the forest, near the outdoor pool. And around 7 o'clock in the evening, the outdoor pool empties and we find ourselves all alone in the forest, by the little river and in complete peace and quiet. Oh, we've found a wonderful place after all.
How important a good night's sleep and well-rested bodies are!
The next day we try a second time at our favourite spot. This time we are lucky and stay for a few days: we work again, watch the many boats on and birds above the Danube. And work on our presentation for the Globetrotter meeting.
At some point - we are now sufficiently rested and prepared for all coming storms - we roll through the Bavarian hinterland. My goodness, how beautiful it is here! We buy freshly harvested fruit and vegetables from small farms, I make plum jam on the way (I don't have an oven for plum jam) and can't get enough of this beautiful area.
After the wonderful, adventurous, completely rainy and yet mega-beautiful Globetrotter meeting, we're travelling across Germany again: we both want to or have to go to a professional conference. When we're back home, it's always a good idea to catch up with each other and refresh our contacts.
So we hurry back up from near Munich towards Mülheim an der Ruhr. Halfway there, I spontaneously write to our friends Barbara and Robert which are actually parked in a wonderful car park in Frankfurt. So we visit them there, have an excellent Israeli meal and spend one of those unplannable, magical travelling-friends-meeting days. Unfortunately, we part ways the very next day, but it's enough for a cosy breakfast coffee. Thank you, dear ones, for taking the time!
Once we arrive in Mülheim, we explore our new home for the next three days. Mülheim itself doesn't have that much charm, but there is a tiny little park and a romantic view over the Ruhr at night of "our" conference centre. I wrote something about it here, but somehow I don't think it belongs here: so just the Link for interested parties.
But now it's time to head home: our Felix has an appointment for the MFK, the Swiss MOT. Wow, our biggest concern is our weight. So we have to deposit one or two things in Mum's garage beforehand, lest we get weighed at the MFK.
But before that, we have to cover this eternally long distance, which is not really our thing. We spend the night en route in Montabaur, high above the old town with a view of the castle. With freshly picked flowers, it's much easier to cycle further south. Later, already in Switzerland, we stop at Gerd's aunt's, where we pick kilos of apples, load them up by the crate and distribute them to all kinds of friends in Switzerland. And so an expedition mobile becomes an apple mobile with far too much weight once again! It's a good thing we're not checked.
We're back in our favourite places in Switzerland, enjoying the last days of summer in sweet Aare pubs and finally meeting up with family and friends again. And thinking about what autumn will be like. Let's see what awaits us.
