Nancy in Lorraine. We have been to this charming little town several times. Always just passing through. As we did again today. And we always remember our favourite bagel shop instead of culture and history.
We squeeze our Felix through the narrow streets (it really was a lot easier with the motorbikes!) and get a parking space directly at Place Stanislas.
The street cafรฉs shining in the sun invite you to have a croissant & espresso. But we have a destination: the bagel shop.
A very strange and lengthy ordering, payment and collection system forces us to wait in the shop. The operator seems to take great pleasure in funny signs, the whole shop is full of them. Equipped with my translator app, I try to translate as many jokes as possible. Not so easy with a hungry stomach and the grumbling mood that goes with it.
With the delicious bagels in hand, we stroll through the city. We watch the filming of French television (despite our hair lying well and only a few bagel crumbs on our faces, we are not cast from the spot) and enjoy the summer in the city.
But as it is with cities, we never stay there long. We spend the evening in the "front garden" of the Ardennes in a nature park. And we notice how the hectic pace that we had imposed on ourselves in the last few weeks slowly falls away.
