Grand Tour - Ireland - Day 729/3

Heinrich Böll writes: " ...the storm has much breath, the rain has much water, and the night is long."

How could he know that?

Once again we find a dream spot. We park in a valley in the middle of the national park. On the left a lake, on the right a lake. We are right in between at a rippling mini-river.

We enjoy the freshly filled water tank, take a long shower and make ourselves comfortable. Yes, such great pitches are simply a gift. A little later, an English minivan joins us. We are all simply satisfied.

As we crawl into bed, we feel slight tremors. The wind freshens up. A little later it whistles through the valley, directly over us. Felix is very photogenic, but broadside in the wind.

We ignore what is happening.

At about 1 a.m. it rattles violently, Felix holds out strongly against it, but every new gust of wind makes us tremble, sometimes I have the feeling we are tipping over. The lake whips its water up, the rain down. The view out of the window, with and without glasses: black, everything black. No moon, no star. And since we are far out, no lamp either.

We pack up, equipped with the headlamp I stumble outside to navigate past the English. But they have long since disappeared. Gerd carefully drives onto the road, I get in with now soaking wet clothes and we look for something sheltered from the wind.

Let's think.

Once we arrive, we snuggle into bed. Until the first squall comes. Just as violent as at the lake. I pull the covers over my head, am tired and above all annoyed. Gerd is more pragmatic, gets up for the second time during the night and sets off.

At 2 we find a parking space in a small town between the houses. Sheltered from the wind. It is raining, but we don't care. We don't care that from 7 a.m. the trucks rush past us, we sleep the sleep of the nocturnal prowlers until shortly before 10.

Yes, we too have exciting nights to report.

Merci for "travelling with us

We are thinking about taking another break from travelling in the summer and visiting our families in Germany and Switzerland. One of the ideas is to organise a Lecture about our long journey to the Persian Gulf to prepare. If you would like to, what would interest you the most? We will also tell stories here that don't find a place here on the blog. We're thinking of the Bern and Berlin area - simply because we have family there. But other places are also conceivable. Feel free to write to us.

Do you think our travel experiences might be of interest to others? Then you can share the Share post quietly. By e-mail or however you want to do it.

In addition, if you haven't already done so, you can use our Newsletter subscribe. Here you will receive all our experiences in your mailbox whenever we publish something new or once a week on Fridays: live-pur.ch/newsletter
