First of all, we don't really know whether we should talk about England or Great Britain. Actually, the ferry takes us to England, which is part of the UK (short for the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland). But also to the UK. So Great Britain.
Then we also want to look at the other parts, Scotland (in our perception a separate country/territory/people whatever) and then there is Northern Ireland. And not to forget Wales.
So, we are here now, no matter what it is called.
The border controls were intensive, passports are a must since Brexit, depth checks on Felix too. Several times we were allowed to take off and put back on the bench above our water tank (folding bench would be cool!), the bathroom and the cupboards were looked into several times. Our garage (the junk room under our bed) and under Felix were also inspected several times by the border controls.
We learn that they are looking for hidden sans-papiers, people without residence permits, who are trying to get to the island by any means. Just the thought that people without papers are "wanted" causes us pain. And we realise that the border issue and the associated privilege of our own countries of origin (which we really can't help!) is so incredibly illogical and unjust.
On our journey, we always enjoy the stories of the local people. But this time, no, this time it's just completely stupid and makes us sad. And somehow a strange farewell to the "continent".
