England - King's College Chapel

great journey day 6342 unfortunately the colleges and their wonderful gardens are closed for visitors.

Unfortunately, the colleges and their wonderful gardens are closed to visitors. They want to be among themselves, Covid, exam time, need for peace and quiet, too many tourists. We are given a lot of reasons.

Jonny, our guide, gives us the tip that in King's College Chapel, which was built in the 15th and 16th centuries for 70 students, all boys, there is a service in the late afternoon - for the people. Evensong is what they call it in the Anglican Church. The special thing about it is that the world-famous choirs of King's College warble here every evening.

We join the queue of people waiting, then walk through the church, which is really very impressive, and feel like we're in Harry Potter in the great hall, and immediately expect to see the talking hat.

A lady, she reminds us of Minerva McGonagall with her smile and her kindness, shows us to our place. As the choir begins to sing, goose bumps cover us. (No warbling, I take it all back!) The acoustics are great, the singing unique. After an hour (we didn't realise how quickly church services can pass), we leave the church as slowly as possible, wanting to take a closer look at everything.

The garden, or should I say: the gardens of King's College are now accessible to us and we stroll through them. A wonderful end to our visit to Cambridge.

Thanks Jonny for the tip!

Merci for "travelling with us

We are thinking about taking another break from travelling in the summer and visiting our families in Germany and Switzerland. One of the ideas is to organise a Lecture about our long journey to the Persian Gulf to prepare. If you would like to, what would interest you the most? We will also tell stories here that don't find a place here on the blog. We're thinking of the Bern and Berlin area - simply because we have family there. But other places are also conceivable. Feel free to write to us.

Do you think our travel experiences might be of interest to others? Then you can share the Share post quietly. By e-mail or however you want to do it.
