Great Journey Day 638 ff.

great journey day 638 ff. we are in york. we could listen to the british for hours how they treat york.

We are in York. We could listen to the British say "York" for hours. It's the epitome of British, we think. Elegant, distinguished, majestic.

If only we felt the same way.

Instead, we're standing near a dog rescue centre, watching the volunteer dog walkers during office days (and ogling the super cute puppies) and I'm noticing how instead of happy Queen holidays, a fat cold is setting in.

Who would have thought it? Colds are also stupid when travelling. However, it seems practical that the rubbish bin for disposing of nasties is only an arm's length away. The travel first-aid kit with vitamin C, propolis and thyme oil is "just turn over once". And the morning and afternoon nap bed is actually always ready.

Nevertheless, we manage to have a mega cream tea and also a little walk through the old town. For a short time we think we are in Harry Potter's Winkelgasse. The cathedral remains closed to us, as we are several times too late in front of the gate. Instead, we watch the people, chat with our campsite neighbours about the celebrations in general and the monarchy in particular.

We spend the evenings blowing our noses and playing Skip-Bo. Gerd always lets me win, I guess it's an attempt to support my self-healing powers through good humour. It's worked so semi-well. (But I remember: if I want to win, I will simulate in future...)

We only realise that we are staying here for almost a week as I write this. But with or without a cold: York is simply magical!

Merci for "travelling with us

We are thinking about taking another break from travelling in the summer and visiting our families in Germany and Switzerland. One of the ideas is to organise a Lecture about our long journey to the Persian Gulf to prepare. If you would like to, what would interest you the most? We will also tell stories here that don't find a place here on the blog. We're thinking of the Bern and Berlin area - simply because we have family there. But other places are also conceivable. Feel free to write to us.

Do you think our travel experiences might be of interest to others? Then you can share the Share post quietly. By e-mail or however you want to do it.
