Great Journey 🏴 Day 656/2

great journey 🏴 day 6562 we are very impressed as we read scottlan

We are very impressed when we read that Scotland has over 3,000 castles. Gerd panics slightly because he (rightly) suspects that we will visit all the remaining 2,997.

Quickly, however, we realise that there are castles and forts. Many of the little pins in our wish list turn out to be 2-minute stops. Stop, say "aha" and move on.

Even pee breaks take longer.

We want to spend the night at a castle that sounds really interesting in the description. Steep coast, castle with a far-reaching view and we in the castle courtyard with a view of the rough sea and the royal horse stud.

When we arrive, we see the sea and one or two ponies in a meadow. Only this castle doesn't want to show itself. We drive to the car park (castle courtyard?), turn our Felix in the "out-of-bed-with-sea-view" direction and discover a small ruin. A tiny little one.

So this is it, one of Scotland's 3,000 castles, and probably the oldest one built of stone. The Old Castle of Wick was built around 1100, and no one has lived here for a long time. So we make ourselves comfortable in our Happy-Mobile instead of in the keep and are completely alone in absolute silence. Only interrupted by the gentle murmur of the sea and the occasional seagull.

We are rethinking our castle-visiting concept. And I will probably (have to) set other priorities from tomorrow.

Merci for "travelling with us

We are thinking about taking another break from travelling in the summer and visiting our families in Germany and Switzerland. One of the ideas is to organise a Lecture about our long journey to the Persian Gulf to prepare. If you would like to, what would interest you the most? We will also tell stories here that don't find a place here on the blog. We're thinking of the Bern and Berlin area - simply because we have family there. But other places are also conceivable. Feel free to write to us.

Do you think our travel experiences might be of interest to others? Then you can share the Share post quietly. By e-mail or however you want to do it.

In addition, if you haven't already done so, you can use our Newsletter subscribe. Here you will receive all our experiences in your mailbox whenever we publish something new or once a week on Fridays: live-pur.ch/newsletter

We are also very happy to hear your views, your tips or your questions. Just comment on the post!
