We didn't realise how many really white beaches with crystal clear water Scotland has. Here on Lewis we find small South Sea beaches in every third bay, mostly empty and without real access. High up on the cliffs there are a few houses, often holiday homes. This is a good place to relax, with an almost private beach.
We think about just driving down a road until nothing works anymore. And we get quite far. Because somehow it still goes on. The roads get narrower, the passing places rarer and the surface changes from tar to a mixture of gravel, tar and potholes.
Back here? Not a soul, just a few sheep.
We look for an elevated spot, walk on one of the largest beaches in Scotland (only huge at low tide!). The sun wants to bid a colourful farewell to the day, only to give way to fat rain clouds 5 minutes later. We make ourselves comfortable and talk for hours on the phone to "home". In between, our friend in Bern doesn't understand anything because of the rain hitting the roof, but as it is in Scotland: just wait 5 minutes and the weather is different.
From Bern comes the idea, the recommendation (or rather the instruction?) to go out again as soon as the clouds have cleared. We are actually already in sofa mode and - mimimi - I don't want to go out there feeling. Gerd remains sedentary, I move my bones out again and am gifted with a beauty over the next hill. With a dreamlike hike, with far too much sheep shit on my shoes and a sunset to be proud of. And the ever-increasing desire for my own SUP.
