Great Journey Day 695

great journey day 695 the idea is this we will drive through the lake district stopping here and there u

The idea is this: we drive through the Lake District, stop here and there and maybe even go for a swim. We will then set up camp in a nice place (in our case, this always means pulling the handbrake and folding up the cooker cover), have a cosy dinner and let the day come to an end.

The whole thing turns out to be a little different. We spoilt low-season travellers didn't reckon with the fact that it was the weekend, that it was summer holidays and that we were travelling in one of the most beautiful regions of England.

So we drive at walking pace along a lake. Not a single parking space can be found, the smallest parking space is already crammed with cars. It's the same at the next lake shore and the one after that. No possibility to stop. The roads are so narrow that if we simply stopped, we would bring the traffic to a standstill. So we keep going.

In Bowness-on-Windermere we find something like a meadow that has been converted into an event car park. Here, after almost 3.5 hours of driving around, we park our little house and try to find an oasis of peace along the candy floss lottery stall and soft ice cream filled promenade. Gerd drove the last few hours highly concentrated, the roads were so narrow, so winding, so full of traffic. He needs a break. But neither of us can relax here.

After a quick coffee, we prefer to retire to Felix and then soon start our onward journey before all the Sunday evening traffic rolls on with us towards the big city.

Because now it's time for us to find a quiet place with good internet, because Monday and Tuesday are office days again. The good thing about our plan: we drive the most beautiful pass road alone in the early afternoon and are completely delighted by this dreamlike area!

Merci for "travelling with us

We are thinking about taking another break from travelling in the summer and visiting our families in Germany and Switzerland. One of the ideas is to organise a Lecture about our long journey to the Persian Gulf to prepare. If you would like to, what would interest you the most? We will also tell stories here that don't find a place here on the blog. We're thinking of the Bern and Berlin area - simply because we have family there. But other places are also conceivable. Feel free to write to us.

By the way, we are travelling through Iran. It's possible that we won't be writing posts at all or will be late. We first have to see if it works for us. And whether we can even manage to write down all the fantastic impressions in good time.

Do you think our travel experiences might be of interest to others? Then you can share the Share post quietly. By e-mail or however you want to do it.

In addition, if you haven't already done so, you can use our Newsletter subscribe. Here you will receive all our experiences in your mailbox whenever we publish something new or once a week on Fridays: live-pur.ch/newsletter
