Grand Tour - Wales - Day 747/2 Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogoch

And who says that only Irish names are strange? The Welsh ones are nothing, nothing at all!

In Wales, we drive to the station of the place with the longest name in the world? Or just Europe's after all?

On the spot, of course, we are immediately told that it is the longest name in the world. But as it is when travelling, here the biggest, there the longest, the deepest, the hottest, the rarest or just the smallest?

Actually, it doesn't matter, the place doesn't really have anything else to offer, so we snap a few photos of the name, which we can't (and don't want to?) remember anyway.

Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogoch or Llanfair Pwllgwyngyll as it is pronounced for short means as much as (and again I must quote):

"St Mary's Church (Llanfair) in a hollow (pwll) of white hazels (gwyn gyll) near (goger) the swift whirl (y chwyrn drobwll) and Tysilio Church (llantysilio) by the red cave (gogo goch)."

Sure, right?

A shoemaker thought up this tongue twister over 200 years ago to make the village of the time more attractive to trade and to persuade the railway company to set up a station on the main London-Manchester-Holyhead line.

The thing with the station worked out in any case. It was not possible to find out whether the deal worked.
